Land Department take Steps to Preserve Initial Work Completed with Westcor on Houghton Road Corridor Project

(Phoenix, Az June 4, 2009) --The Arizona State Land Department recently issued an order bringing the first phase of the Houghton Road Corridor planning effort to a close.  In January 2008, the Land Department awarded Westcor a planning permit for the 11,800 acres known as the “Houghton Road Corridor”.  Under the planning permit, Westcor completed a significant amount of preliminary work that will be used to move forward with the planning process once the economy recovers.

Jamie Hogue, the Land Department’s Interim Land Commissioner explained, “Westcor and the Land Department invested significant resources into compiling information that will be extremely useful when this project is reignited in the future.  Issuing the Order and finalizing the first phase of the Urban Planning Permit allows the Department to make the information available to the public and will facilitate the Department’s collaboration with the City of Tucson and its citizens when the planning process continues in the future.”

The Department’s plan and summaries of the information compiled under the Urban Planning Permit are available on the Land Department’s website at http://www.land.state.az.us/news/2009/060309_news.htm.
